Handling the Spirit of Offense as Christians

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Your Word reminds me in Ephesians 4:31-32 to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Lord, I ask for Your help to release any bitterness and anger I may be holding onto.

Offense is a mighty powerful spiritual term that I have had and am dealing with. No matter how hard I would pray the spirit of offense always seemed to raise its ugly head. This spirit always seems to come up after I am in a spiritual warfare battle in prayer. This spirit plays on the emotions and the headspace of individuals leaving them feeling as if they are not good enough, or important enough, and plays on self-confidence as well as it forces the individual to retreat and crawl into a whole of despair.

I am working through the issues in my life and choose to conquer them in prayer. We are God's Children, and we must be reassured in our spirit that we are joint heirs with Christ, a royal priesthood who have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light.

This spirit of offense has a track record with you in your spirit that you picked up in your bloodline or before you were born. It has manifested through a word, thought, or deed. The spirit of offense come's to dim your spiritual light by burying you in despair and hopelessness.

You overcome this spirit through the Word of God and much prayer. I have put some prayers together below to help you in your spiritual deliverance of offense:

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Your Word reminds me in Ephesians 4:31-32 to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Lord, I ask for Your help to release any bitterness and anger I may be holding onto.

Lord Jesus,

You taught us in Matthew 6:14-15 that “if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” I pray for the grace to forgive those who have offended me, just as You have forgiven me. Help me to let go of any grudges and to extend grace and mercy.

Holy Spirit,

Guide me in understanding the root of my offenses. In Proverbs 19:11, it is written, “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.” Grant me the wisdom and patience to overlook offenses and to respond with love and understanding.

Father,

I acknowledge that holding onto offense can hinder my relationship with You and others. As it says in Colossians 3:13, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Help me to bear with others and to forgive as You have forgiven me.

Lord,

I pray for healing from past hurts and offenses. In Psalm 147:3, Your Word says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” I ask for Your healing touch upon my heart, that I may be free from the pain of past offenses.

Jesus,

You are my example of perfect love and forgiveness. In Luke 23:34, You said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Help me to follow Your example and to forgive those who have wronged me, even when it is difficult.

Holy Spirit,

Empower me to walk in love and unity. In John 13:34-35, You command us, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Fill my heart with Your love, that I may love others as You have loved me.

Father,

I declare freedom from the spirit of offense. In Galatians 5:1, it is written, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” I stand firm in the freedom You have given me, and I refuse to be burdened by offense any longer. I insert my name, [Your Name], into this promise, believing that You have set me free.

Let's make these prayers a lot more personal by inserting your {Name} in the blanks.
